Goodnight Scrub Trip
10
February 08
Under the leadership of our fearless President we set off to Goodnight Scrub National Park with new members out for their first trip. Our first stop was at Gin Gin for a welcome cuppa. Then we made tracks to Boolboonda Tunnel which was formed in 1880’s and filled with a bat colony - fascinating creatures to watch as we walked from one end to the other. We gave them a bit of a scare as we drove through.
Next stop was at Mt Perry for a spot of lunch and a spin on the playground equipment.
We then travelled down the National Horse Trail and followed along Sunday Creek with the onlook of many cattle much to the delight of passengers and through plenty of water crossings much to the delight of the drivers. Next stop Kalliwa Hut at Goodnight Scrub National Park on the edge of Paradise Dam and looking quite full. After checking the mango Tree for fruit and Ken (Spiderman) inspected the vehicle for unwanted 8 legged hitchers we were off again up to One Tree Hill look out where our courageous (Hillstart Helen) bravely conquered the Hill (Go Girl!).
Our journey then took us through some beautiful country to Booyal Causeway over the Burnett River – it was so full and good we just had to do it a second time with water going everywhere. As time was getting on we headed for home – all and all a great trip out.
