On Friday 25th January
most of us arrived nice and early to catch the 7am barge across
to Fraser Island
With a combination of “old” and
“new” members it was a time to great each other and get
introduced.
We docked at Kingfisher Resort
and in Aussie style bought flags for our 4WDs and had a chat, a
laugh, tuned our UHF radios and headed off to Eurong for our
bush camping experience for the long weekend. Upon arrival at
Eurong we found that the tides were higher than expected due to
the storms the Fraser Coast had received over the previous
weeks. A change of plan was set into motion – stop for a light
snack and a cuppa.
With all of us being refueled we
headed to Central Station where we looked around and some of us
more energetic went for a walk. After a bit more 4WDing we
headed back to Eurong. With the tide out and the beach passable
we made our way to the camping ground. Upon arrival we checked
out the camping area and set up for the weekend. The next
morning it was time to register club members for the Australia
Day Clean Up.
After the last members arrived
and set up we headed out for an afternoon of exploring Fraser
Island. We cooled off at Lake Boomanjin and did some canoeing
thanks to Anthony and Helen. With all members cooled off we
headed back to camp.
Sunday morning with breakfast
under out belts and the tide out it was time to Clean Up –
Fraser Island. Our clean up side was the beach area around
Eurong station. With that we set a plan in motion and got down
and going. A trailer load of 40 rubbish bags later we had the
beach area cleaned. After dumping the rubbish in the designated
area it was time to explore more of Fraser Island. With some
inland and beach driving we stopped at the Maheno and afterward
at Eli Creek to refresh. We headed back to camp to get ready for
the Toyota sponsored Clean up Fraser Island BBQ. It was a great
evening.
Monday morning came around far
too fast. It was time to back up and use any time left to
explore more of Fraser Island and take the barge home. It was a
weekend crammed with various 4wd experiences and lots of laughs.
